What is on the Rummy score sheet?

One line per hand, one column per player, totals kept as you type and counted against 500. The table starts short and grows as the hands fill up, so a long evening never runs out of lines.

How do you score Rummy?

This is the thing that makes other people’s score sheets useless to you, so it is worth saying plainly. In 500 Rum— the version most people mean — the player who goes out collects the value of the cards left in everyone else’s hands, and the highest total wins. At many family tables it works the other way: each player writes their own leftovers as a penalty, and the lowest total wins.

Both are correct. The switch above the table simply tells the sheet which column to mark as leading — the arithmetic is the same either way.

What are the cards worth in Rummy?

Aces 1, face cards 10, and every other card its printed number. The common variation is the ace: some tables score it 11 or 15 when it is caught in a hand, which is enough to change whether you hold one waiting for a run. Settle it before the first deal.

Melds laid down usually count for the player who laid them, which is why going out is worth so much less than catching somebody with a hand full of face cards.

Which Rummy variants does this sheet fit?

Hand by hand with a target describes most of the rummy family. Gin Rummy plays to 100 with a bonus per box, Canasta to 5,000 with meld values, and Kalooki and Contract Rummy both work as a plain column of hands. Write the hand value in the box and add whatever bonuses your version uses at the end.

Rummy scoring: questions people ask

What are the cards worth? Aces 1, face cards 10, everything else its number. Some tables score aces high at 11 or 15 when they are left in a hand — worth agreeing before the first deal, because it changes whether you hold one.

Does the highest or lowest total win? It depends on how your table scores. In 500 Rum the player who goes out takes the value of everyone else's leftovers, so the highest total wins. Elsewhere each player writes down their own leftovers as a penalty and the lowest wins. The switch above the table sets which one is marked as leading.

What score do you play to? 500 is the usual target, which takes roughly eight to fifteen hands depending on the table. Shorter evenings often play to 200 or 300. The sheet counts each column against 500.

Does it work for Gin Rummy? Yes — hand by hand with a target is exactly Gin's shape too. Gin usually plays to 100 with a box bonus per hand; write the hand value in the box and add the bonuses at the end.

Where do my scores go? Into your own browser and nowhere else. A reload will not lose the game, and pressing New game twice clears the pad.
