What is on the Mexican Train score sheet?

The rounds are already named. Instead of thirteen lines numbered one to thirteen, the sheet lists the engine of each round — 12–12, 11–11, all the way down to 0–0 — so nobody has to remember which double is next after the tiles are shuffled.

Type the pips as each round ends and the totals keep themselves. The lowest total is marked in amber, because in this game every point is a domino you were caught holding.

How do you score Mexican Train?

When a player lays their last tile, everyone else counts what is left in their hand: the two ends of each domino added together. A 6–4 is ten, a 3–3 is six, a blank–blank is nothing at all. That number goes in the box.

Some tables score the double blank as 50 rather than zero, which turns the most harmless-looking tile in the set into the one nobody wants. Agree on it before the first round rather than after somebody is stuck with it.

How many rounds are in Mexican Train?

A double-twelve set gives thirteen rounds and seats up to eight players. The first round is played on the 12–12, the next on the 11–11, and so on to the 0–0 — which is why the hands get shorter and the game gets faster as the evening goes on.

With a double-nine set it is ten rounds instead. Leave the top three lines of the sheet empty and start at the 9–9.

Mexican Train scoring: questions people ask

How many rounds is a game? Thirteen with a double-twelve set: one round for each double from the 12–12 down to the 0–0. A double-nine set makes it ten rounds. The sheet lists all thirteen; simply leave the top rounds empty for a smaller set.

What do I write in each box? The pips still in your hand when somebody goes out. A hand of a 6–4 and a 3–3 is 19. Whoever went out writes a zero.

Does the lowest or highest total win? The lowest — every point is a domino you were caught holding. The sheet marks the leader in amber and is set to lowest-wins for this game.

Do I need a double-twelve set? It is the usual one, and it seats up to eight. With a double-nine set the game is shorter: ten rounds, and everyone draws fewer tiles to start.

Where do my scores go? Into your own browser and nowhere else. A reload or a locked screen mid-game will not lose them, and pressing New game twice clears the pad.

Can I print blank sheets? Yes, with all thirteen rounds, six player columns and the scoring rules printed underneath — so whoever keeps score does not have to be the one who knows the game.
